Company Description:

Infineon Technologies AG is a world leader in semiconductors that make life easier safer and greener. Microelectronics from Infineon is the key to a better future. Infineon offers products and system solutions addressing three central challenges to modern society: energy efficiency, mobility, and security. In the 2018 fiscal year (ending September 30), the company reported sales of about Euro 7.6 billion with some 40,100 employees worldwide. Infineon is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ticker symbol: IFX) and in the USA on the over-the-counter market OTCQX International Premier (ticker symbol: IFNNY).
The participating research departments of all three involved business units in Neubiberg have long years of experience in the development and integration of technologies and in the use of semiconductor solutions for innovative applications. In PROGRESSUS the focus of Infineon’s activities is on current sensing solutions, their integration into new power modules and on optimized security for decentralized applications. All of them serve applications such as power converters and communication modules as needed by local energy supply grids. Thus, PROGRESSUS continues the success story of Infineon’s participation in European funded projects in the Energy area, especially from the E2SG and CONNECT projects and fits perfectly to Infineon’s focus on energy efficiency, mobility and security.

Role and main tasks within the project:

IFAG is the overall project coordinator, national coordinator for Germany, leader of WP4 and technical key partner in PROGRESSUS. Three divisions of IFAG, Automotive Sense and Control (ATV SC), Industrial Power and Control Integrated Solutions & Discretes (IPC ISD) and Digital Security Solutions (DSS SCS) contribute to PROGRESSUS:
    • ATV SC: Innovative, low cost magneto resistive current sensor (TMR sensor) for smart grid / smart home and Internet of Things.
    • IPC ISD: Integrated power module with PROGRESSUS TMR sensor of ATV SC
    • DSS SCS: Hardware based security solutions for decentralized smart grid applications and services
    • The activities of ATV and IPC directly complement each other.
    • IFAG will provide its prototypes to several partners for their research.
